What Makes the Linksys AC5400 Exceptional?

As mentioned the Linksys AC5400 is an exceptional wireless router, but on the bulky side and one of the largest seen.

DesignImportant Features and Hardware

The EA9500 measures 2.6 (H) x 10.4 (W) x 12.5-inches (D) with a black enclosure that holds eight external adjustable antennas. There are three antennas found on each side with two found on the back. The downside is you cannot remove the antennas.

Further, the router has a status panel fitted with eight LED bars that flash once the device boots up or if firmware upgrades take place. You have a selection of I/O ports found on the back. The design includes eight Gigabit LAN ports, a USB 3.0 & USB 2.0 port, and a WAN port.

There are a reset and power button and on the right side you have a Wi-Fi enable/disable and WPS button.

The AC5400 is packed with outstanding hardware under the hood. You have a 1.4GHz dual-core processor with an 802.11ac circuitry. Additionally, there are three Wi-Fi bands that work independently the 2.4GHz band and two by 5GHz bands.

With the 2.4GHz frequency band, you can reach up to a maximum speed of 1,000Mbps while each of the 5GHz bands can reach up to 2,166Mbps. The other standout feature of this router is the capability of using MU-MIMO data streaming.

This feature transmits data simultaneously for compatible clients to use with Beamforming and sends data directly to the user. The other amazing thing about the router is it supports Seamless Roaming technology when corresponding with the Linksys Max-Stream Range Extender.

This helps the user to connect to the strongest signal while you move from one room to another automatically. You can set up the Max-Stream AC5400 with the Smart Web-based interface or use the Smart Wi-Fi mobile app. On the main page, you can find all the tools and router settings with added widgets to manage Guest access, Wireless, Media Prioritization, External Storage and Parental Control settings.

You can also view connected devices on the available Network Map. On the Guest Access page, you can create passwords for both frequency bands and block Internet access or schedule access for a select of clients.
