The Linksys E1200 N300 wireless router is part of the latest E collection of the wifi leader Cisco. If you need an affordable router, the N300 is the cheapest in the series. The wireless router has a single-band design suitable to use in the home. If you are not technically minded this device is straightforward to setup and use.

The Cisco Connect software gives you a stable connection and signal and able to transmit up to 300Mbps with the Wireless-N feature. The E1200 can handle a home to small business network with ease. Further, it has a sleek design compared to other routers. With the small footprint, you can easily place it on a desk or anywhere in the home. There is one hidden antenna and is not wall mountable.

On the back of the router, there are 4 by LAN ports and one WAN port. The device is packed with other features we will be discussing later on. This is a great entry-level budget wireless router. The Linksys E1200 has a flat, UFO design with a small footprint. Cisco has designed the device with a black high-gloss finish giving it an industrial look. As mentioned before, it only has one built-in antenna and not wall mountable. On the back, you find the LAN and WAN ports with a power connector. For security purposes, it has a push button to set up the wifi protection.

Compared to some of the best budget wireless routers available the N300 does not have LED indicator lights on the front. However, each port at the back has an LED. The frequency range is 2.4 GHz and a standout characteristic is the guest network. This is great for sharing your internet with others up to ten users.

You can control the access of users, local printers, and files. The parental control is efficient with content-filtering systems in place. The feature you can control with the Cisco Connect or Web Interface to change the bandwidth or set up a limit to another PC connected.

The Linksys N300 E1200 Wi-Fi router has outstanding features designed for the home or a small business. With the one-band single antenna, you get a radio band of 2.4 GHz. The wireless standards are IEEE 802.3/u/11b/11a/11g/11n with WPS/WPS2 wireless security.

Unfortunately, the router does not have a USB connection for data transfers to external devices. The guest network is one of the prominent features found on the device. This is great for sharing your home network with other users. You are still capable to control their access and bandwidth.

You can connect up to ten users with the E1200 wireless router and with the simple design; it does not take up loads of space. Control your kids’ access to the network and their bandwidth with the parental control filtering system. Use the web interface to manage your FTP and HTTP servers.

Each of the ports on the back of the device has corresponding LEDs and once turned on they show a solid green color. Where the Linksys E1200 stands out is the long-range signal. All the important parts built-into the on-chip amplifier to improve the range of the wireless signal.

Compared to the top wireless routers sold online, the Linksys E1200 performs well. The routers not fast and have a normal speed of 35.7 Mbps when used in a 15-foot range. When used at 100 feet the speed range is 6.4 Mbps. So what does this mean for you? This means the wireless routers not able to handle heavy network traffic. If you plan to share the network with a small family in the home, the E1200 is perfect. Some users found the wireless range short and when it came to a 48-hour stress test, it did not disconnect.

If you need an easy setup and the best budget wireless router, make the Linksys E1200 N300 part of your home network. The N300 might be a single-band router, but with the Cisco wireless router, it received the 1st place for the simple setup. This prompted other vendors to follow in the Cisco ease of setup design. Now the majority of other brands use the same setup features.
